Unconventional Threat Intelligence: Leveraging Discord for News Feed
At the beginning of this year, I wrote on Medium about how I landed a job as a Threat Intelligence Analyst Intern. However, I soon realized that staying current with the latest news in the field was a daunting task, even with tools like TweetDeck and newsletters at my disposal.
I’m not sure how I stumbled across this article (pictured below) but it gave me the idea to create a server to stay up to date with Threat Intel.
So with that in mind, I decided to create a Discord Server. Invite link for the server later in the story.
So as the article suggests I decided to add the following bots to the server (MonitoRSS, Pingcord, Reminder-Bot & YAGPDB).
Will probably add more bots in the future, depending on the server requirements.
Adding Server Security (Verification)
So for the Server Verification, I decided to use YAGPDB.
Now with that enabled, I will be using my alt-account to test it.
YAGPDB sent me a link via DMs to verify myself on the server, let’s see if that works.
The verification worked, and now I have access to the server via my alt-account.
My alt-account is visible under the Verified User role.
Adding RSS Feeds (Work in Progress)
So I decided to add a feed from Reddit r/bluteteamsec to test the server.

Cyber Threat Intelligence Feeds from Twitter added with TweetShift
Now it will take a while before I get to see if the feeds are working correctly.
The Twitter Feed was the first to work.

Please note that I won’t be updating this article any further, but the server will remain an active and collaborative resource. To foster a sense of community and collaboration, I’ve set up a Discord server that serves as a community project. The server has a few open chats for users to type in, including a general chat, an RSS feed suggestions chat, and a slow general chat. While these chats may seem distracting, they can be easily muted, so you can focus solely on the valuable intel shared on the server. How to mute the chats! (ignore number 2 on the link, as it will mute the whole server and defeat the purpose of the server). The channel mute can be applied to RSS Feeds as well.

To ensure a safe and welcoming environment, the server has basic moderation and user authentication in place to prevent bots from disrupting the community.
My goal is to make this server a valuable resource for everyone, and I am committed to updating the RSS feeds and keeping the server up-to-date. However, I also recognize the power of a collaborative community, and I encourage everyone to get involved and share their knowledge and insights. With the help of the community, I believe this server can become an even greater resource, benefiting all who join.
